Clear, Accurate & Timely

Striving for personal growth, I wanted to learn a new skill.  After weighing my options and levels of interest I decided to delve into  American Sign Language.

I started learning ASL through internet lessons at www.lifeprint.com taught with Dr. Bill Vicars.  I supplemented my lessons with once a week tutoring with friend/interpreter, Pam Cavazos who was essential to help me understand the essentials of ASL and Deaf Culture.
I quickly learned that without more frequent opportunities to practice with other "live" people, learning ASL would be very difficult.  So I switched my program.

Now I take evening classes twice a week at Berkeley Community College, formally Vista.  Their curriculum is known to be among the best in the Bay Area.  My instructor for the spring session ASL I, was Cheri Smith, who I thought was amazing at her job.  She is also a co-author for the curriculum and DVD used in the class "Signing Naturally".  I've successfully completed ASL I, II, III and Classifiers One.  Whew!  The classes were all very interesting and challenging.  While I'm very passionate about the classes, I felt I needed a break from them after four semesters in a row.  The Fall semester is offering Fingerspelling, which up to now was only offered in the Summer.  I'm very excited to take this class, because it's definitely a weak spot!  I now have over three years of signing experience, but I am far from being the "free flowing" signer I want to be.
I'm excited about developing my skills and hope that when you buy or sell a home, my new found ability can be useful to you.
